Illustrated Map of Narva-Jõesuu

The illustrated map of Narva-Jõesuu is an artistic public-space object that brings together the resort town’s history, nature and everyday life into a single visual composition. Unlike conventional navigation maps, it functions as a visual narrative, presenting the town through details, scenes and symbols that are familiar to local residents and accessible to visitors.

The composition is conceived as a living panorama in which past and present coexist side by side. Characters, architecture, natural motifs and recognizable landmarks form a multi-layered image of Narva-Jõesuu, evoking memories of summer walks, sea air, resort tranquillity and personal stories. Each element of the illustration is part of a broader narrative that has no single fixed interpretation.
The map was created by artist Natascha Schwarz on commission from the City Government of Narva-Jõesuu and is displayed on outdoor information boards on Aia Street. Today, it functions not only as an information display, but also as an independent cultural object, inviting dialogue and individual interpretation of the town.
