The Riigiküla Battle Memorial is dedicated to those who fell in the Battle of Riigiküla during the Estonian War of Independence. It commemorates the events of 25 February 1919, when the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Estonian National Army successfully repelled an attack by three Red Army regiments. The battle was an important episode in Estonia’s fight for independence.
The original memorial was erected in 1935 on the initiative of local reserve officers and with the support of the community. The project was designed by construction technician Morando-Edmund Moikov, and the monument was unveiled on 10 June 1935. It was destroyed in June 1941 during the Soviet occupation.
