Narva-Jõesuu serves as the final destination of Europe’s most magnificent coastal walking route, connecting the Atlantic Ocean and the Baltic Sea.

European Long Distance Path E9 is a unique transcontinental coastal trail stretching along the shoreline of Europe. It is designed for hikers, wilderness lovers, and eco-tourism enthusiasts.

Starting at the rugged Portuguese Cape St. Vincent (Algarve), the trail passes through 10 countries, winding along the coasts of the Atlantic, the English Channel, the North Sea, and the Baltic Sea, before reaching its triumphant finale on the endless sandy beach of Narva-Jõesuu.

In the Baltic States, the E9 trail is officially known as Baltic Coastal Hiking (in Estonian: Ranniku matkarada, in Latvian: Jūrtaka). In Estonia, the route starts at the Latvian border in Ikla, passes through Pärnu, winds along the romantic cliffs of the northwestern coast, crosses Tallinn, runs through the pristine forests and majestic limestone cliffs of Lahemaa National Park, and heads straight east into Ida-Viru County.

  • How to stay on track?
    Throughout Estonia, the trail is marked with white-blue-white flags painted on trees, stones, and posts, as well as special signs featuring the official Baltic Coastal Hiking logo.
  • Where to stay at the final destination?
    Narva-Jõesuu offers a well-developed hospitality infrastructure, including cozy guesthouses and premium SPA hotels, where weary travelers can rest, recover, and relax after hundreds of kilometers on the trail.
  • When is the best time to go?
    The route is open all year round, but the ideal time for hiking is from May to September.
Although the integration of the route on global European maps is still being finalized, on the ground here, the Estonian section of the Coastal Hiking trail is fully complete. Narva-Jõesuu proudly embraces its mission to serve as the official final crescendo of this epic 10,000-kilometer journey!
