Estonia’s Record Places and the “Gates to the Land of Adventure”: a new tourism project in Ida-Viru County

Ida-Viru County has firmly established itself as Estonia’s most “record-rich” region. It is home to more record-holding natural and cultural sites than anywhere else in the country, and these places are now marked with a unified visual symbol – special yellow geo-markers reading “Estonian Record Place.”

In total, 19 record place markers have been installed across the region, along with four “Gates to the Land of Adventure” that symbolically welcome visitors and open the way to Ida-Viru County – a land of nature, vast landscapes and surprising discoveries.

The project makes travelling around the region clearer and more engaging: record sites are easy to find on the map, include in itineraries, photograph and add to a personal list of places worth seeing at least once in a lifetime.

Estonia’s longest seaside resort beach is in Narva-Jõesuu

Narva-Jõesuu Beach has officially been recognised as the longest seaside resort beach in Estonia, and this record is now marked with a yellow “Estonian Record Place” geo-marker.

A multi-kilometre stretch of soft sand runs along the coast of the Gulf of Finland, linking the sea, pine forest and resort architecture into one distinctive landscape. It is a place for swimming and sunbathing, morning runs and long walks, watching sunsets and enjoying slow, relaxed moments all year round.

The geo-marker highlights the uniqueness of the location and lets visitors know instantly: one of Estonia’s natural records is right here.

Another important point of the project is located at Narva-Jõesuu Harbour, where a large yellow IDA/VIRU sign has been installed, clearly visible from the river and from the water. For those arriving by water, it becomes the first visual sign of Ida-Viru County – a symbolic greeting and an ориентир marking the entrance to a land of records, nature and discoveries.

Ida-Viru County – a land of records and discoveries

Ida-Viru County is increasingly revealed as a region where records become part of a living journey. Yellow geo-markers, the record-breaking Narva-Jõesuu beach and the IDA/VIRU sign by the water help visitors navigate the landscape in a new way, notice details and build their own collection of experiences. Sometimes it is precisely these simple landmarks that become the beginning of a great journey – and a reason to return.
