Views of Ida-Viru and the Sea
Sinimäe Observation Tower
The Sinimäe Observation Tower is located within the Vaivara Landscape Conservation Area, in the heart of the Sinimäe hills on Pargimägi Hill. It is a place where diverse nature, wide-open views and the distinctive landscape of Ida-Viru come together.
The tower stands 29.5 metres high and features three viewing platforms within its wooden structure. The highest platform is positioned at 25.5 metres above ground level. From here, visitors can enjoy expansive views of the surroundings. On clear days, the Baltic Sea is visible, and the town of Sillamäe can be seen on the horizon. This is one of the best viewpoints in Ida-Viru to experience the scale and variety of the region’s natural scenery.

At the base of the tower, there is a designated rest area, ideal for taking a break before or after the climb. A long hiking trail maintained by the Estonian State Forest Management Centre (RMK) runs across Pargimägi Hill, suitable for both leisurely walks and longer hikes. The trail makes it easy to combine a visit to the observation tower with time spent exploring the surrounding nature from different perspectives.

The Sinimäe hills are also known for their historical significance. Nearby is the Vaivara Sinimägede (Blue Hills) Museum, which presents the complex history of the area and the role of these hills in 20th-century events. Together, the museum and the observation tower form a cohesive visitor experience, where natural openness is complemented by historical memory.

The Sinimäe Observation Tower offers a moment to pause, look into the distance and experience the quiet strength of Ida-Viru’s nature.
